Six years ago a small group of veteran mates decided they wanted to make wine.
They created a wine label called “We Happy Few” and they secured access to pick wine grapes from commercial vineyards in Yass Valley and the Hilltops region of NSW.
The veterans went onto learn how to hand make cool climate wine and high altitude wines in Murrumbateman to the north west of the ACT.
The veteran wine making social enterprise has since grown to involve five Canberra and two Sydney veterans and their families.
Some of the sale proceeds are directed to organisations that offer veteran support, as well as charities and other community organisations.
Army Officer Allison Gillam and Dr Dan Corkery, who is a GP in veteran’s health, joined ABC Canberra’s Adrienne Francis in the Dickson studio on Remembrance Day 2020.
