Actually, that takes the hassle out of arranging something this year, and with many Leeds restaurants offering takeaway editions of their most popular dishes, you can get the fine dining experience at home!
Proving that a takeaway doesn’t have to be a slap-up box of greasy junk food you quickly snaffle between cans of mid-strength lager (though, if that’s your Valentine’s vibe, run with it), these takeouts will keep everything as classy as possible.
Here are 10 of the best Valentine’s Day 2021 takeaway and meal boxes in the North East.
6a Pier Point, Marine Walk, Sunderland SR6 0PP
Treat you and your loved one to a take away box from Six in Marine Walk, Roker.
It includes: homemade crab mayo, smoked salmon, king prawns cooked with Nduja butter and lemon, cured meats, olives, pickles, a selection of local cheeses, raspberry and white chocolate tarts, chocolate-covered strawberries, locally-made sourdough, focaccia and crackers.
The price is £50 and you can add wine for an additional charge.
1A Bridge St, Sunderland SR1 1TA
Enjoy a Valentine’s meal at home from Fat Unicorn.
Priced £26 per person it includes four courses of Wearside Wild Sourdough with cultured butter; roast squash, burrata, roscoff onion and pomegranate; braised beef cheek with pomme puree, charred leek and salsa verde and poached rhubarb pavlova.
You can also order a cheese course supplement, wine pairing and a vegetarian menu.
Peace & Loaf
217 Jesmond Rd, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne NE2 1LA
It’ll be a trip up to Newcastle for this next recommendation, but the drive will be well worth it, with Peace of Loaf running a ‘Valenpienes’ offer.
That means, for £65 per couple, you’ll get a three-course meal of starters, mains and sides, dessert, and a ”bubbly treat”.
Of course, the highlight of Peace and Loaf’s ‘Peace of Pie’ takeaway (in operation since lockdown closed the restaurant) has always been its pies, and the menu here includes a bourguignon pie served with dauphinoise potato.
Why not go double pie and get one in for dessert? A millefeuille of apple pie with chocolate truffles will do just the trick.
Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham DH1 1TD
Those willing to travel slightly further afield can enjoy love at first bite with Valentine’s Day Celebration Boxes from the Rib Room at Ramside Hall.
Tuck into four courses from the award-winning Rib Room chefs. The meal for two with a bottle of wine is £80 and you will need to pick it up from the hotel’s reception on either February 13 or 14.
Sushi Me Rollin’
Stack, Pilgrim St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6QE
Sushi Me Rollin’ – the handmade sushi restaurant found within Stack – launched its delivery service recently, and while sushi might not be the first thing that springs to mind for a romantic, Valentine’s meal, there’s no denying this is some of the best in the north east.
The date night platter on offer here includes a 30 piece chef’s selection of sushi, dips, a bottle of prosecco, and doughnuts from R Place in Monkseaton.
You’ll need to head into Newcastle for collection this time (there were only ever 20 slots for delivery, exclusivity fans), and pre-ordering is certainly recommended.
The Little Cakery by the Sea
Whitburn Rd, Seaburn, Sunderland SR6 8AA
The Little Cakery by the Sea will be doing special Valentine’s-themed afternoon teas available from February 11-14 for delivery and collection.
Priced £30 for two, the boxes include a good choice of wraps and sandwiches, pastries and sweet treats.
The Good Apple Cafe
18 Derwent St, Sunderland SR1 3NU
Good Apple is selling vegan afternoon teas for two, priced £25, which are available for collection on February 13 from the Derwent Street cafe.
69-75 High Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6BX
If you’re up for a quick drive into Newcastle to pick up some curry (and what curry it is), you could do a lot worse than Dabbawal, who are offering five-course feast boxes for couples this Valentine’s weekend.
At a modest £50 a pop, the box includes appetisers, a pre-starter, a tandoori trio starter, two mains, sides, and sweets. Pre-order for collection.
