In normal, pre-pandemic times, mothers have always had to perform several jobs. Over the past year, though, those jobs have multiplied as working from home, home schooling and reduction of after school activities put more family together time/responsibility on parents. So, while mothers should look forward to spending Mother’s Day celebrating with and being appreciated by the family, they could also use some time on their own; a survey of 500 mothers on Today.com revealed that a majority of respondents wished for just that. These hotels can offer it along with some extra nurturing in either overnights or longer stays.    

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills Sitting in a hot tub is always relaxing but it’s even better when it’s on the rooftop at night overlooking the lights of the city and no one else is around. That’s one of the features of the Mother’s Day package here, giving the hot tub over to this guest after the pool area closes plus a cheese plate and bottle of wine to enhance the experience. A lavender scented eye pillow and Waldorf pajamas are also provided in the room to encourage a more peaceful sleep. The next day, after breakfast in bed, a late morning Ultimate Indulgent two hour experience at the hotel’s La Prairie Spa including an exfoliation, wrap and caviar massage is included to return Mom home in more serene shape. Baccarat Hotel Just walking into New York’s Baccarat Hotel is a sumptuous experience; the Grand Salon sparkles with intricate crystal chandeliers bouncing light off the Jouffre silk covered walls, beige leather chairs, burgundy banquettes and other crystal fixtures dotted around the room. Upstairs, the “Mother’s Day Moment” arrangement available through the month of May is intended to give a gift of that crystal, a Baccarat keepsake, along with other gifts of flowers and chocolate truffles. But the main feature is an elaborate breakfast in bed in a deluxe suite with absolute quiet.

Equinox Hotel This hotel in New York’s Hudson Yards from the company behind Equinox Fitness Clubs naturally has a high performance tune up focus. Their “Momcation” combines two nights accommodation, a trio of techno-therapy treatments (cryotherapy, infrared sauna and wave table brain + body boost, an immersive sound and harmonic resonance therapy that increases restfulness and energy, providing approximately three hours of sleep in 30 minutes) and a $100 credit to use for meals at the Electric Lemon Rooftop Terrace Restaurant or in room dining. When not being energized, guests can swim in the indoor 75 foot saltwater lap pool or the outdoor pool with views over the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline.

Waldorf Astoria Chicago The “Mom’s Suite Escape” at this group’s hotel in Chicago’s Gold Coast is the opposite of high performance; it’s totally dedicated to relaxation. Included in this arrangement: suite accommodation with welcome gifts of sparkling wine and macarons followed by a 90 minute massage and 60 minute facial in the spa. A Waldorf robe is also part of this package and it serves as the attire for dinner: room service with a $75 credit. Available through the month of May.

Mayflower Inn & Spa, Auberge Resorts Collection This recently redesigned bucolic retreat in northwest Connecticut is offering mothers who stay two nights from Sunday to Thursday throughout the month of May a $100 credit for a treatment at THE WELL, the 20,000 square foot offshoot of the Manhattan integrated holistic wellness center blending eastern and western treatments. A possible treatment: the Remodeling or Triple Life Facial from the SkinHealth program from Biologique Recherche and Naturopathica launching there in May.  Daily breakfast, a room upgrade at check-in if available, and a bottle of wine are also included. The same package is available at Auberge sibling The White Barn Inn in Kennebunk, Maine, minus THE WELL which is only at The Mayflower. And a slightly abbreviated arrangement is also available at another Auberge Resorts Collection property Commodore Perry Estate in Austin, Texas: daily breakfast and a $100 resort credit.  

Amangiri Just staring out through the floor to ceiling windows of a contemporary suite at the jagged canyons in southern Utah is enough for a first step in a restorative journey. But an overworked mother checking in for two nights in the “Restore and Rebalance” program at this Amanresort available through December 22^nd will take advantage of Navajo healing traditions in the 25,000 square foot spa. A 30 minute crystal sound bath, 60 minute massage each night, all meals and other activities outside of the spa such as the rock climbing experience Via Ferrata, a horseback ride or kayaking on Lake Powell are included.

Sanctuary on Camelback Spa time is also a major component of the “Sanctuary Escape” program at this 53 acre mountainside resort outside of Scottsdale. Arizona. Apart from a stay in a contemporary, sharply designed suite or casita with views over Paradise Valley, guests receive a $240 credit for services such as a Signature Coconut Sumatra Body Ritual, acupuncture, Luk Pra Kope Thai massage with medicinal herbs or a healing Reiki massage. The restaurant elements, seasonal American cuisine with Asian overtones, is also so popular that Scottsdale residents drive out here for dinner.
