The Macomb Daily asked readers to submit memorials to loved ones lost to COVID-19 in the past year. These are some of the remembrances we received:

Thomas Earl Dimon II

Age 60, Clinton Township

Retired from Mopar after over 25 years in June 2020.

Linda Marie Krantz

Age 65, Harrison Township

Died on April 7, 2020.

“She was a wife, mother, devoted grandma and loving friend to many. Her beautiful smile and laughter is deeply missed. She liked to play keno, shoot pool, bake, and spend time with her friends and family.”

Clement F. Graessle

Age 75, Clinton Township

“Vietnam Veteran. Beloved companion of Taffy. Father of Michelle, Katie, Brian and Kristin. Grandfather of 12. Oldest son of family of 13 children. Worked in the screw machine industry. Loved bowling, hunting, fishing and travel.”

Richard Andrew Denton

Worked at Hollywood Market

“Rick was an amazing person he enjoyed his new role as a papa. He loved life and his family meant everything to him. He is missed every day.”

Eddie Darnell Miller

Eastpointe resident who worked for DTE For 19 years.

“Was a loving husband, brother and good friend. He loved to cook and he enjoyed people.”

Eda Sahr

Age 95, of Chesterfield Township

“She enjoyed many years with husband Charles on Lake James in northern Michigan. Eda retired in 1978 from the State of Michigan and enjoyed reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles, Euchre, Solitaire and Bingo. She is terribly missed and forever loved by family and friends.”

Mary Roy-Brewer

Age 56, of St. Clair Shores

Inside Sales Rep.

“Had a zest for life that everyone who came in contact with her recognized immediately. She was a wife, mother, nona, cousin, friend and co-worker that loved with all her heart and soul. She was a genuine and all around good person that is loved and missed by many.

Frederico U. Acerri

Age 83, St. Clair Shores

Worked at Wayne State Library as a librarian Retired from Wayne County Intermediate School District as an information specialist.

“Fred was a lifelong self taught artist known for his drawings and prose as his alter ego the “Mad Monk”. He was also proud of being a mediator for the Wayne County ISD’s Union. He was an avid reader and a United States Air Force Veteran.”

Maria Burzynski

Age 78, Sterling Heights

“You made such a difference in the world with your selfless acts and love! Leaving an imprint on all of our hearts. May we lead by this example.”

Benjamin Robert Hirschmann

Age 24, Fraser

Occupation: Public Relations

“Ben was bigger than life. With a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face he always brought people together. To meet Ben was to know Ben, and to know Ben, was to love him.”

Shirley Said

Age 85, Fraser

“Loving mother to Cindy Endres (Patrick), Kathy Herbert (John), Nancy Badovinac (Mike), Steve Kata (Mary Jane), and Kari McKnight (Robert). Shirley’s life was centered around her family, especially her 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.”

George Allen Brainard

Age 83, Shelby Township

Ford Motor Company retiree

“George was full of life and never stopped exploring. He loved hunting and traveling the world. He will always be remembered as the life of the party. We love you and miss you George. S-i-i-i-p!”

Olive Marie Love

Age 79, Fraser 

Retired registered nurse

“Olive loved animals especially dogs. She enjoyed playing with her grand and great grand children. She loved the Detroit Red Wings and video games.

Phillip Bryan

Age 83, New Baltimore

“Phil Bryan was an amazing man who loved his wife and children dearly. He was a quiet and reserved man with a gentle soul who respected anyone. His love and passion for life included many hobbies which kept him busy and enjoying his life. The world lost an incredible man when Phil went to heaven.”

Giuseppe “Joe” Scibilia

Age 75, Clinton Township

Masonry and trucking business owner

“Joe was a generous family man who immigrated from Sicily and achieved the “American Dream”. He enjoyed vacationing, gardening, making wine, and entertaining.”

Robert Richard Reindel

Age 80, Richmond

Retired from Black & Decker as a machine operator

“Robert was full of life and enjoyed spending time with his family, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Always willing to give to his community and served on many committees.”

Mary Lyn P. Bellardi

Age 69, Clinton Township,

Retired floral designer

“Mary was married to Mike for 49 years, had 3 children (Jenna (Matt) Sadowski, Jason (Brenna) Bellardi, and Jessica (Jason) Long. Mary loved to travel, was an avid gardener, and devoted to her 7 grandchildren. She was an active member of St Ronald’s parish and a long time volunteer at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.”

William Arthur Gruenawald

Age 66, Clinton Township.

Retired carpenter from the Detroit Board of Education.

“Survived by wife Mary for almost 45 years; two adult children; and three grandchildren who lovingly called him “Gupky”. He will forever be remembered for his generous heart, integrity and strong work ethic.”

Richard (Dick) Prentiss 

Warren resident for over 50 years, he was a die setter for General Motors Corporation for 43 years. Preceded by his wife of 53 years, Joanne Prentiss

“Our dad was a quiet man in many ways – reserved one might say. However, he would regale you with many a story of his time spent at work, the dog, and other current events. He did have the gift of gab in that respect. While he had a gruff exterior, our dad was a very loving, caring, and thoughtful man. He was highly mechanically inclined. No matter what he put his mind to, he accomplished. Dick was such a strong man in many ways. He loved to tease people as a way of showing his affection, and had nicknames for many people in his life. He loved to garden and to cook and took great pride in how well his garden was, and how much everyone liked his cooking.”

Age 83, Warren

Waitress before retirement and housewife.

“A beautiful caring person, always smiling. Mother of eight, noni to many grandchildren.”

Perry Curtis Adams

Age 63, Mount Clemens

“Perry Adams was a die-hard Detroit sports fan and avid music lover. He could sing, dance, and bring so much life to any party. He was a legendary presence in the lives of all who knew him and will forever be loved and deeply missed by his two children, his twin brother and six other siblings, and his many family members and friends.”

Age 84, Clinton Township.

Retired office manager

“She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. She was very kind and giving and everyone who met her loved her.”

Age 85, business owner and retired welder

“He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. Loved his Toronto Maple Leafs’ hockey and would truly give you the shirt off his back. My parents were married for 65 years and had the best love story I have every had the honor to witness. They are missed each and every day.”

Ronald David Newood

Age 60, Clinton Township.

“Worked at Social Resources of Macomb until 2019 then resided at Lakepointe Senior Care. Graduate of the Lutz School for Work Experience in 1986. He then started work at Macomb Social Resources, where he worked up to 2019. Ron was an avid bowler, enjoying the weekly outings sponsored by social resources. He also liked watching or listening to ‘his’ Detroit Tigers, often mimicking the late great Ernie Harwell’s sayings.”

“Harvey was a husband, dad and great friend to all he crossed paths with. He loved baseball and devoted all his time into our son and enjoyed watching him play in college now. Whenever he walked into a room he would light the room up with his smile, laugh and jokes. He is truly missed by all.”

“Mike was easy-going, a natural born story teller and liked by everyone. He adored his family, put his wife on a pedestal and had so much pride in his three sons.”

Frank E. Jewell 

Age 92, Mount Clemens then Clinton Township for over 68 years.

Worked for General Motors at the GM Tech Center in Warren for 28 years.

“He was a devoted husband to his wife, Deloris, for over 69 years and was known for his positive attitude and smiling face. He enjoyed traveling, camping, playing the slot machines, putting puzzles together and many card games.”

Charles (Chuck) Timothy Wummel

Age 62, Macomb Township

“Chuck was beloved by all who knew him, his laughter was infectious and he never met a stranger. He could brighten your day just by walking in the room. The epitome of a family man, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, determination, and joy that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.”

Michael DeRiemaecker

Age 54

Worked at The Macomb Group.

“He leaves behind his mother, sister, wife, two daughters, a brother in law, nieces and many friends who adored him. I was blessed to be his little sister and best friend my entire life. Michael was the kind of person you wanted in your world, he made life a better place. His smile lit up a room, always had an ear for a friend and a helping hand. He is missed beyond measure.”
