McLaren Vale Winery Sparkling Shiraz Brut Wines Australian Wine Club Membership – PRWire

Manor Estate Tells the Story Behind Shiraz Wines – and How to Enjoy Them

Wine lovers come in all shapes, sizes, and levels of technical knowledge. “You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy the taste of a good wine,” says Manor Estate’s Peter Cap, “but knowing a little about different wine varieties will help you to find what you like.” To Peter, helping wine-lovers to understand their favourite beverage is part of the winemaking art he practices. “It’s about enhancing the overall experience,” says Peter, “and it’s why Manor Estate produced its own made-for-TV series on how to enjoy wine to the full.”

Peter’s winery, Manor Estate, produces the self-indulgent wines branded as “ME” wines, and his Shiraz is an international award winner. However, even wine fanciers who know they like a Shiraz may wonder just what earns this red wine its name. It all comes down to the grapes and where they’re grown says Peter.

Read: McLaren Vale Winery Secrets Wine Club Wines Tasting Events Australian Winemakers

A French Grape Variety Makes Itself at Home in Warmer Climes

Shiraz, explains Peter, comes from a historic French grape variety that’s known as Syrah in its birthplace. It grows well in warmer climates, expressing its flavour somewhat differently than it did back home in France. “Even in Australia, there are wines made from Syrah grapes that have the more acidic overtones and peppery aroma that the French versions do. The Yarra Valley wines are more like a Syrah than a warm-climate Shiraz. In McLaren Vale, the flavour is fruitier and if there is to be a distinction between Shiraz and Syrah wines, those would be the characteristics that differentiate them from each other.”

Shiraz: Among The Darkest of All Reds

The colour of Shiraz (or Syrah) wines is quite distinctive. Peter demonstrates the dark hue by holding a glass up to the light. The dark liquid is a deep red that’s almost black, and that’s in line, says Peter, with the berry flavours for which the wine is famed. He notes that Australians love their Shiraz wines and that Shiraz grapes are among the most widely grown in Australia. “Americans enjoy their Shiraz too,” he says, reflecting on the success Manor Estates achieved in the USA where it rapidly earned a reputation as a producer of exceptionally good wines suitable for serving to the “beautiful people” in Manhattan’s most luxurious venues.

Shiraz Flavour: Full-Bodied, Bold, and Dry

Red meats and red wine are a classic pairing, but Peter Cap says there’s more to Shiraz than just that. “Shiraz wines have a bold flavour, and they complement foods that have a bold flavour too. Aged cheese, for example, smoked meats, and the richness of duck are better when enjoyed with Shiraz wines, and the tannins help to cut through the fattiness of lamb. From the barbeque to the gourmet dinner, and from starters to desserts, there’s always room for a Shiraz in the wine selection.”

More Than Just the Grapes

At Manor Estate, Peter insists on ageing wines according to time-honoured traditions. “Good quality Shiraz starts with selecting the best wine grapes, but it doesn’t end there,” he explains. “There’s no substitute for the flavour of a wine aged in oak barrels and given time to develop its flavours naturally. It’s possible to fast-track wine production, but the difference lies in the taste.”

Another component of a great Shiraz is often overlooked. Yeast is used in the fermentation of wine, but there are many variants, and according to Peter Cap, the original French strain of yeast produces superior results.

From the consumer’s perspective, the temperature of the wine will also affect the way its taste is experienced. Peter recommends refrigerating Shiraz for 15 minutes before serving. “Most people serve it too warm,” he warns, “and that means they aren’t getting the most out of their Shiraz.”

“It begins with Shiraz grapes,” says Peter, “but that’s just the start. From how the wine is made to details like the choice of glassware, the temperature it is served at, and the foods with which it is paired, a little understanding of the art of making and enjoying wine will enhance your choices and maximise your enjoyment of Shiraz wines.”

Manor estate offers wine events, a romantic wedding venue and luxury accommodation in McLaren Vale. For more information, or to buy wine online, or join their wine club, visit the Manor Estate Wines website or call their team of experts on (08) 8383 7300.

A South Okanagan winery gets excited when temperatures drop below -8 degrees – Salmon Arm Observer – Salmon Arm Observer

February 21, 2021 by ADSWineReporter

Icewine is the most finicky, weather-dependent wine to make.

Bench 1775 in Naramata knows this all too well.

When all of us were shivering and heading indoors during the recent cold snap, the team at Bench 1775 were heading outdoors to harvest frozen grapes to make their 2021 icewines.

Icewine must be produced exclusively from grapes that are naturally frozen on the vine and pressed in a continuous process while the air temperature is -8° Celsius or colder.

And after a lot of hard work, with frozen hands and bodies, Bench 1775’s 2021 ice wine harvest is over, said winemaker Richard Kanazawa.

They were able harvest 36 tons of grapes and were the first winery in B.C. to harvest this year.

With 30 pickers on call, no matter what time of day or night, they waited for the cold snap to come, and when it did, they jumped to work.

Bench 1775 is one of only a few wineries on the Bench that make ice wine. Hillside Winery also does.

“Before Bench 1775 started doing table wine, they were making icewine exclusively,” said Kanazawa.

Former owner Jim Stewart created the ‘Whistler’ and ‘Paradise Ranch’ ice wine series with various grape varieties from their vineyard.

Their Whistler 2017 Pinot Gris ice wine was the 2019 gold medal winner in WineAlign national awards and the Paradise Ranch 2014 Sauvignon Blanc ice wine won best in class. The Whistler 2019 Viognier is a new release with grapes harvested in perfect -15 degree weather.

“This year, we picked pinot noir, Riesling and Viognier which is our main ice wine varieties,” said Kanazawa.

Another trick to really good icewine is bottling it as quickly possible, said Kanazawa.

“Not only are we waiting for the perfect weather, you want to bottle right away to avoid re fermentation of the icewine,” he said.

Kanazawa has been the winemaker at Bench 1775 for about a year, taking the job after realizing COVID-19 made it difficult to keep his own vines. He’s a familiar face around the vines, having been the winemaker both at Blasted Church and Red Rooster. He’s looking forward to elevating the wines at Bench 1775.

EVERYTHING ABOUT ICEWINES:

Ever wonder what to pair ice wine with?

For Kanazawa, he likes to pair icewine with salty and savoury things like a salty pate or foie gras.

But dark chocolate, lemon desserts, seared scallops or soft goat cheese are also some popular pairings.

You can also cook with it, he said. Reduce it down for a demi-glaze or sauce.

Icewines are ideally enjoyed chilled between 10-12°C poured into pre-chilled wine glasses.

Kanazawa said he actually likes ice wine aged 10 years.

“A well-made icewine can hold that long. It takes on a more butterscotch flavour which is really nice to enjoy with friends.”

Canada is the world’s largest producer of ice wines. Because of how difficult it is to make, icewine does not come cheap, usually fetching $50 to $100 per bottle. The major market for icewines is Asia.

Blackenbrook Wins Trophy For 2020 Pinot Blanc | Scoop News – Scoop.co.nz

February 21, 2021 by ADSWineReporter

Friday, 23 October 2020, 6:33 am

Press Release: Blackenbrook Vineyard

Two trophies for the winery’s new varietal
in as many years

clean-cut
2020 Pinot Blanc
bottle

22
October

Blackenbrook Vineyard’s 2020 Pinot
Blanc received the Trophy in the ‘Other White Wine
Varieties’ class from the New Zealand International Wine
Show at its awards announcement last night. This is the
winery’s second vintage of Pinot Blanc and second trophy
in prestigious competitions honouring alternative white
wines.

The New Zealand International Wine Show (NZIWS)
is the largest wine competition in the country. This year
Bob Campbell MW chaired a panel of senior judges who awarded
a record number of gold medals. The judges included leading
winemakers, several Masters of Wine, and many key industry
personnel, most of whom have been involved in major wine
competitions for more than a decade. Judges expressed
delight to see a New Zealand made Pinot Blanc topping the
‘Other White Wine Varieties’ class.

Owner and
winemaker Daniel Schwarzenbach says that 2020 was a
near-perfect season for grape-growing generally, and the
Pinot Blanc vines benefitted from another year in the ground
to deepen their roots.

“The 2020 Pinot Blanc is a
superbly balanced wine from what has been a stellar year for
winemaking all-around. The Pinot Blanc fruit came pristine
off the vine, a real joy to work with. You can taste the
minerality in the wine from roots that have found their way
deeper into the soil, continually searching for moisture and
nutrients. Wine drinkers will notice that minerality as well
as a zing from the combination of floral and spicy notes.
It’s slightly more acidic, which means it’s fresher to
drink. And it will be equally good for
cellaring.”

Last year’s inaugural Pinot Blanc
vintage won the Trophy in the New Zealand Aromatic Wine
Competition in the ‘Other Aromatic’ category. Mr
Schwarzenbach was confident that this new product, matured
in stainless steel to allow the fruit’s natural flavours
to shine, would be pleasing to kiwi wine lovers. In fact, it
was such a good vintage, he held some back in old barrels
and added it to the 2020 vintage.

“Adding in a bit
of the 2019 helped bring some texture to the 2020 wine,
which was honestly looking incredible anyway thanks to the
quality of the fruit and the incredible growing season.”
Adding wine from previous vintages brings depth to a fruit
crop that is taken from the same site each year. It is one
of the tools Mr Schwarzenbach uses to create his style of
wine. Other wineries with more land and vines can blend with
grapes from different soils to achieve their own unique
vintage.

Mr Schwarzenbach is grateful to the team who
worked in the vineyard this year, especially under the
uniquely stressful conditions.

“Our family, the
vineyard team, and the folks who hand-picked our grapes
under extreme pressure ahead of the pandemic lockdown are
all due immense thanks. We are honoured to win the Trophy
and humbled by the accolades we are getting for this
varietal.

“I’m not surprised, however, that the
Pinot Blanc is attracting awards and interest, though. We
felt confident this particular grape, by growing it in our
terroir and climate with our natural approach, would produce
incredible wines for our customers to drink now and
later.”

Purchase the 2020 Pinot Blanc online at www.blackenbrook.co.nz
and at select retailers found on our website. Read more
information about the varietal and its previous awards in

Global Fortified Wine Market Research Report 2024 – The Bisouv Network – The Bisouv Network

February 19, 2021 by ADSWineReporter

Fortified wine is type of wine that is prepared with the mixture of additional alcohol, which is typically some form of distilled spirit like brandy. The process is taken forward to ameliorate the wine flavor and increase the alcohol composition in the wine, ranging from 17 to 20%. These wines are available in three distinctive forms namely medium, dry and sweet. These wines are aged within wood casks. This, in turn, further improves the organoleptic properties of the wine and makes it much more appealing in taste. General Hospital Spoilers Update: Friday, February 19 – Cameron Armed – Brad’s Bad News – Franco & Liz Anniversary Disaster – Celebrity Dirty Laundry

February 19, 2021 by ADSWineReporter

General Hospital Spoilers Update: Friday, February 19 – Cameron Armed – Brad’s Bad News – Franco & Liz Anniversary Disaster

General Hospital (GH) spoilers update for Friday, February 19, teases that Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor) will receive treatment at GH following his gunshot wound. Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) fired at Brando as Thursday’s show wrapped up, but he had some good reasons why.

Brando was freaking out about losing Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) trust and potentially getting killed.

Jason’s solution was shooting Brando in the thigh, so perhaps now Brando can point the finger at Jason and make it seem like he’s a true Corinthos clan enemy.

Cyrus will hopefully be convinced that Brando’s still on his side. Plus, Brando will need some recovery time, so Cyrus won’t be breathing down his neck about finding Florence Grey (Annie Abbott) while he’s in the hospital.

The only downside is Brando will have to face police questions, but he’ll handle Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) pretty well in Friday’s episode.

Jordan won’t be happy about Brando withholding information and keeping the shooter under wraps, but Brando will insist he’s in the dark on who fired at him.

That’ll keep Jason from facing a legal battle, but there could be issues if Cyrus feels like Brando’s protecting Jason. Whatever the case, Brando will live another day and that’s great news.

Meanwhile, Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) will enjoy drinks and some fun conversations with Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner). Curtis will get confirmation that Portia’s having a blast on their nightclub stakeout.

This will definitely be a situation where Curtis mixes business with pleasure. Curtis’ Valentine’s Day investigation will lead to a deeper connection with Portia – and it’ll spark the idea of Curtis potentially buying a nightclub to run. It sounds like this night could set up more updates to Curtis’ life.

Other General Hospital spoilers say Cameron Webber (William Lipton) will arm himself against an intruder at the “Friz” home. After Cam grabs his guitar and prepares to use it as a weapon, he’ll call out to see who’s there.

Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla) and Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) should eventually make their presence known, so Cameron can relax and welcome them inside.

Cameron will open up to Josslyn and Trina about his Stanford dilemma before talk turns to Franco Baldwin’s (Roger Howarth) health battle. Trina and Joss will do whatever they can to support Cam as he copes with all his family’s drama.

Next, Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) will clear something up for Franco. Liz will be dressed up along with Franco for their anniversary date, but Franco will feel like he’s being tested somehow.

Elizabeth will promise that’s not the case and may apologize if Franco feels like he’s been put through a grilling session.

GH fans know Liz just wants to be supportive and stay in the loop on any symptoms Franco might be dealing with. Franco will face some rude behavior from other patrons in the restaurant he goes to with Liz.

Peter August’s (Wes Ramsey) article has successfully spread Franco fear across Port Charles, so that’ll make this date night somewhat disappointing.

Franco will also face some hair loss due to his cancer treatment, so his evening won’t be everything he hoped it would be. On a happier note, TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow) and Molly Lansing-Davis (Haley Pullos) will move ahead with their commitment ceremony.

TJ will be excited about kicking off this new chapter with Molly and making their lie together a bit more official.

Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Lexi Ainsworth) will be happy everything worked out after Molly’s cheating confession. She might even apologize for urging Molly to keep quiet once upon time. Honesty was clearly the best policy, but Molly will just be glad her future with TJ is intact.

This commitment ceremony is happening at last, so Molly hold her bouquet and look forward to what’s ahead with the man she loves. While TJ and Molly get ready to commit, Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) will share some sweet moments with Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) for Valentine’s Day.

Chase will think Willow looks beautiful – and he’ll like the surprise she’s apparently cooked up, too.

Willow may suggest some dishes for Chase to try along with a specific bottle of wine. It should bring a blast from the past if Chase and Willow reminisce on their days of exploring different wine varieties. Chase will feel good about where things are headed with Willow after they have a relaxing evening together.

As for Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell), he’ll seem a bit agitated as he speaks with Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson). Michael will hint that you can’t always get back certain things you give up. Sasha might worry that giving up Michael means a reunion isn’t possible anymore.

However, Michael might be referring to something else entirely or just blowing up a bit in the heat of the moment. General Hospital spoilers say Michael will share some calmer scenes with Sasha after they visit Brando in the hospital.

It won’t be long until Michael heads back to the Quartermaine mansion with Sasha – and they’ll nearly lock lips as they reconnect.

Unfortunately, Chase and Willow will have some bad timing! As their own date wraps up, Chase will take Willow back to the Quartermaine gatehouse. That’ll put them in Sasha and Michael’s orbit briefly, so that kiss won’t pan out once Monday arrives.

In the meantime, Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) will receive a present for Valentine’s Day. She’ll assume it’s from Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) – and even Nik will mistakenly believe it’s the bracelet he bought for Ava. Too bad it’ll be a dead roach from a mystery sender instead!

Ava will be grossed out and anxious after she reads the ominous note attached to the box. This will set up Nikolas and Ava’s debate about who the sender is once Monday rolls around, but Friday should bring the initial bombshell.

Back at GH, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) will happily greet Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) and take her lab coat off for a chat.

Britt will get comfortable and see how Brad’s been holding up in prison. He’ll be grateful that Britt managed to score him this medical checkup and give him a breather from his cell.

Brad will sense that Britt’s bonded with Jason and most likely needle her about it. They’ll also address the serious topic of Britt’s hand tremors. Brad will feel like Britt really needs to get herself checked out, so Britt may admit that’s the plan.

Britt recently made an appointment and will seek a diagnosis at Mercy Hospital soon enough.

Of course, Britt won’t want to bring down the mood too much with any grim concerns. She may encourage a subject change, but there’ll be another unpleasant topic to dwell on. Brad will witness Lucas Jones (Matt Trudeau) looking way too cozy with Felix DuBois (Marc Anthony Samuel).

Lucas will get the wrong idea about something, so it’s possible there’ll be a Valentine’s Day misunderstanding that makes Lucas think Felix is behind a gift. Then again, Lucas might misunderstand why Brad is there and worry he’s had a health setback.

Either way, Lucas will eventually give Felix some attention and perhaps flirt a little, so Brad will be jealous and disheartened. General Hospital spoilers say Brad will fret about Lucas moving on, but maybe there’s still a chance for “Brucas” down the road.
